How to correctly add vanadium suppressants for steam turbines

Vanadium suppressant for steam turbines is a type of fuel additive used to inhibit the corrosion of thermal equipment such as steam turbines caused by vanadium salts. Its core function is to prevent low melting point vanadium compounds generated after the combustion of vanadium containing fuels from damaging equipment components.
Core principle

The active ingredients such as magnesium in vanadium suppressants will react with vanadium in the fuel to generate harmless high melting point vanadate salts, which fundamentally prevent the formation of low melting point vanadium pentoxide and prevent it from causing molten salt corrosion to metal components.

Vanadium inhibitor

Mainstream type
Magnesium based: Widely used, including oil soluble magnesium salts, modified magnesium oxide, and other categories. Some products have a magnesium content of over 20% and good dispersibility, making it difficult to block oil circuits.
Nickel based: Specially adapted for steam turbine scenarios, it plays a role in preventing corrosion of liquid fuels contaminated with vanadium.
Rare earth composite materials: can withstand high temperatures of 1800 ℃, while also having the effect of sulfur fixation and reducing exhaust pollutant emissions.
Key points of use
The addition ratio of vanadium suppressant for steam turbines needs to be controlled to ensure that the magnesium/vanadium ratio is within the range of 3.0~3.5:1. Excessive injection can cause scaling and blockage of the cooling channel, while insufficient injection cannot achieve anti-corrosion effect. It is recommended to use automatic injection as the main method and manual laboratory verification as a supplement.
Based on the basic characteristics of vanadium suppressants for steam turbines mentioned earlier, the correct addition requires strict control of key points such as proportioning and operation methods. The specific methods are as follows:
Accurately control the addition ratio
It is necessary to ensure that the ratio of magnesium to vanadium in the fuel is stable at 3.0-3.5:1. The vanadium content of the fuel can be tested first, and then the injection amount of vanadium suppressant can be calculated based on this to avoid excessive or insufficient injection.
Prioritize the use of automatic filling method
Relying on the supporting control system, real-time linkage of fuel flow and automatic adjustment of vanadium suppressant injection amount are the mainstream reliable operating methods in power plants, which can maintain stable proportioning.
Assisted by manual verification and adjustment
Regularly test the proportion of magnesium and vanadium in fuel, manually adjust the filling amount based on the test results, and avoid problems such as scaling, blocking the cooling air duct, and reducing unit output caused by excessive filling.
Do a good job in mixing pretreatment
Select vanadium suppressants with good oil solubility for steam turbines, mix them thoroughly with fuel in advance, ensure that the agents are evenly dispersed in the fuel, and avoid uneven concentration of local agents affecting the anti-corrosion effect.
